Restoration of a historic building

Grottammare

Grottammare

Via Mezzina

The intervention consists in the restoration of an extra-urban building of historical and architectural value that aims to safeguard and enhance the historical typology to which the building belongs. Particular attention is paid to the existing citrus grove wall that encloses the lower courtyard to the west and that presented evident phenomena of static instability.

Completing the complex system of restoration works is the construction of a level swimming pool that generates an articulation of servant spaces pertaining to it. The rectangular body of water that is created has two accessible sides and two inaccessible sides, the latter consisting of small walls with cascading overflowing water.

An intermediate area between the swimming pool and the basement is created with permeable paving and to be planted, in good weather, with citrus plants in pots. Wide pavements are built adjoining the north and east walls of the courtyard, acting as distributive hinges with the outdoor spaces.
